We support the Clarets Trust!
Our Successes and Achievements
The Clarets Trust is asking all Burnley fans to unite in support of Burnley FC. The aims of the Trust are to give Burnley fans a voice within the club and to promote Burnley FC within the community.
Clarets Trust has achieved many things since its formation only just over four years ago. Take a look at the following list of successes and achievements to see how the Trust is moving forward
- New Partnership with Club
In December 2008 Burnley FC strengthened it's ties with Clarets Trust announcing it's intention to work with the Trust as a formal link with fans. All supporters and supporters clubs can now raise issues with the Trust and can be represented by the Trust in discussions with the Club at regular monthly liaison meetings.
- Regular Trust Article in 'Claret & You' Matchday Magazine
We negotiated with the club to have a regular article section in every home programme (Claret & You) during the 2009-10 season in the Premier League. This allowed us to put across a lot of Trust information about our events, news and intentions. This column has continued into the 2010-11 season
- 100 shares purchased (at £200 each) enabling representation at the club AGM
Clarets Trust now own £20,000 worth of shares in Burnley FC and we shall continue to increase this shareholding to give us an even greater say. At non-director level we are now one of the top ten shareholders .Members can also proxy their own shareholding to Clarets Trust so increasing our voting power.
- Trust Help Fund Disabled Shelters at Turf Moor
The Trust in discussion with the Club helped raise the profile of shelters for the disabled at Turf Moor representing the views of other supporters clubs and individuals such as Pete Baron of Accrington Clarets. The Trust also arranged financial assistance to help partly fund the shelters by requesting that some of the Trust share purchase money be put towards the project. The disabled shelters were installed and used for the first time at the Sheffield Wednesday game on 28th February 2009.
- Representative on Supporters Consultation Group (now disbanded)
Clarets Trust regularly attended the SCG with the Club, putting forward the views of our Membership and keeping up to date with developments.
- Shirts 4 South Africa Community project
Clarets Kit donated by Burnley fans has now been successfully sent to South Africa for three local teams to wear bringing a smile to the face of impoverished kids.
July 2006 saw the formation of the first Clarets Trust Board after the former Steering Committee held elections and it's first Annual General Meeting.
We continue to get new approaches from Members interested in joining the Trust Board and/or helping Clarets Trust. David Perkins joined the team in early 2006 along with Chris Wells who was co-opted onto the Board in December 2006 and is now a full Board Member.
Richard Garth-Jones joined as a co-opted member in November 2008 and Richard Timbrell became Treasurer in January 2009 and became a full board member.
Simon Kenyon was co-opted onto the Board in June 2010 following our AGM
- Trust negotiates with Club the removal of walk-on fee
The Trust reported the walk-on fee removal as follows:
Club drops surcharge for rest of season - 17/01/2006
There’s no doubt that the policy to charge fans £3 more for a ticket unless they purchased it several hours before kick off was not well received amongst many 'walk-on' fans and even season ticket holders.
Whilst we can understand the club wanting to know how much money will be coming in each week, the move caused some fans to feel they were being penalised for choosing whether they were going to the match at the last minute.
Whether this was the sole cause for many people not going on is difficult to pinpoint but hopefully now we have a standard price for tickets no matter what time you buy them, we'll see more fans at the games.
The Trust do feel that we had a hand in helping this decision be made as we made it clear to the club that we felt the policy was unsuitable and that our members had let us know as much.
The Trust continue to be successful with its involvement in the annual Kick-It Out 5-Aside Football matches which saw a schoolchildren's version introduced in 2006 to supplement the Schools Anti-Racism Poster Campaign.
We have now had four annual festivals and this event is always popular raising significant funds for Clarets Trust.
- 'Holding Court with Laws' and 'An Evening with Barry Kilby' Q&A Sessions in 2009-10
The Trust in conjunction with Burnley Football Club organised a Question & Answer session with Brian Laws at Turf Moor and made over £400 profit from the event following on from an earlier successful evening with Chairman, Barry Kilby hosted by actor Richard Moore, an avid Clarets fan of course!
- 'Stars for a Night' contest and ‘Generations’ evening
The Stars event was hugely successful and raised over £300 for the Trust and a local hospice (The Pendleside Hospice at Reedley) and everybody enjoyed the 'Generations' evening although we would have liked a greater attendance.
- Youth player sponsorship of Ali Akbar and Jack Overson in 2006-7
The Trust will continue to support the Youth Team and you can expect further announcements in this area in the future.
- Player sponsorship of Jay Rodriguez 2007-8, 2008-9 and 2009-10
The club ceased to offer youth player sponsorships in 2007-8 so we did the next best thing and sponsored Jay Rodriguez after the striker moved up from the youth team to become a full squad member in his first professional season. We decided to continue our sponsorship of Jay for the next two seasons.
- Player sponsorship of Clarke Carlisle 2010-11
We sponsored Clarke Carlisle for the 2010-11 season, Clarke, like Jay is a Trust Member and he helped promote our 'Power of Five' campaign in 2010 offering discount memberships to celebrate our 5th birthday
We also have many meetings with the club to discuss disabled facilities, the new ground development, share save schemes and many other projects and issues
The Trust is making progress as you can see above BUT we could do more, much more, if enough supporters get involved and promote the Trust.
